Bowie
The Bowie competition is the club's nature competition, traditionally a strength for the club and a competition that typically has a very high standard of entry. From the 2024 / 2025 season entrants can select up to four entries from two of the following categories: Zoological, Botanical, Geological, Astronomical and Meteorlogical. (Prior to this entries were restricted to the Botanical and Geological categories).
The restrictions for this competition comply with the requirements for most national and international nature competitions. Only limited editing is permitted and the emphasis should be on the storytelling elements within the image.
The winner for the 2024 / 2025 season was Mike Cruise with his four images Red Squirrel in Heather, Diving Kingfisher, Common Redpoll and Lofoten Aurora. Ken Dow took second, Guy Phillips third and Craig Graham took fourth spot. Christopher McNamara was awarded the Ila Bowie Trophy for the best developing photographer while Eddie Middleton was awarded best Botanical.
